Be aware this is your opportunity to voice your concerns on UCSC expanding to increase the number of students by 9,000 students which will make 28,000 students. Their expansion directly impacts Delaware Ave., Swift Ave, Mission St., Western Dr., Empire Grade, Bay St, and High St. as well as the full town of Santa Cruz's water supply, pollution, and traffic.

Now is the time for the residents of Santa Cruz to act by emailing their comments to be part of the UC's scoping study. There is only until before April 8, 2020, for feedback from the community for the scoping study. Email lrdp@ucsc.edu to voice your concerns.
Feedback from the community is imperative if we want a say in what happens in Santa Cruz. Learn what is planned for the Westside of Santa Cruz and the campus up on Bay Street.
UCSC states they wish to be a good community partner. Let's hold them to it! Do you want to write the LRDP of UCSC about the problems UCSC has feeding their existing students and how they cannot provide for their student's basic needs? Do you want to write about the existing problems the graduate students are voicing? Do you want to write about Santa Cruz being one of the most expensive communities to live in within the United States and communities like Merced would have more affordable conditions for students to live? UC Merced only has 8,884 students enrolled. It makes no sense to increase UCSC when Merced can more easily increase enrollment at a lower cost to the UC and a lower cost to students and their families. UCSC already has 19,457 students enrolled. (In fact, UCSC's yield was lower for 2019 which is an indicator it is NOT A GOOD IDEA TO EXPAND. Yield is the percentage of students who choose to enroll after being offered admission.)
The next LRDP (Long Range Development Plan) community meeting will the first week of April. Sign up here for notice of the online meeting Get LRDP updates. There is a link to sign up on the right side of this webpage near the bottom: https://lrdp.ucsc.edu/
The expansion involves using 18.5 acres on the Westside of Santa Cruz impacting neighborhoods.
REMEMBER TO WRITE NOW. All feedback must be received by UC by April 8 or sooner for the scoping report. Our voice must be LOUD and clear. State what is important to you. State Santa Cruz is a small host city 65,021 population that does not have the infrastructure to accommodate 9,000 more people. We do not have the water especially in drought years and there are better locations to expand.
We have much to lose for the UCs gain. How fair is that? Why not increase enrollment in a more economically feasible town?
