No matter how you vote on the recall please understand Chris Krohn has consistently fought to combat the 5 story and higher buildings on Soquel Ave. and Water St. in Santa Cruz. Chris understood that Don Lane as mayor, hand-selected the 14 member corridor committee which lacked representation of the Eastside Santa Cruz residents in the discussions of how the specifics of the zoning for the General Plan were to be done. (Councilmember Richelle lived on the east side at the time and since moved to the west side.) 85% of the density was placed on the east side of Santa Cruz in the corridor plan. Members of the community, such as all of you, fought hard to stop the uneven corridor plan. With 2 new council members, it is especially important how you vote for the March 3 election.
One of the candidates, Katherine Beiers, has stated that she is in favor of terminating the “Corridors Plan,” and supports the Council’s new direction, insisting that our zoning code and General Plan make the preservation and protection of our residential neighborhoods a “first priority” for the City. Her opponent in the election is, Don Lane, who has declined to answer a questionnaire regarding his views on the corridor plan. He has made clear, elsewhere, that he favors high-rise and high-density along the city’s main transportation corridors, many of them on the city’s East Side of Santa Cruz.

Please vote carefully in the upcoming March 3rd election. Thank you.
