Aggiornamento sulla petizione"Stop High Density Zoning for Water St and Soquel Ave. in Santa Cruz, Calif.”Tonight Nov 15 6:30 to 8:30 PM Important Meeting Santa Cruz Bible Church

The more people who attend the better. Come and ask the important questions. Some questions to ask: Why isn't more being done to have UCSC house more students? Why doesn't the City of Santa Cruz City Council go to the UC Regents and request a cap on UCSC's growth due to the housing crisis? Why isn't the city requiring at least 40% of new housing be built for average and below average wage earners? Why isn't the city requiring developers to supply bus passes for units that do not have two parking spaces? Why are Environmental and neighborhood review times being shortened? •Why are the passageways of the city like Soquel Ave. and Water St. being worked on for re-zoning for high density 5 and 6 stories buildings when the area is already in gridlock? If it is important to build where public transit is located why not expand the public transit to areas where cars do not need to travel through one side of the town to the other? Why isn't public and private money pooled together like what has been done in Monterey to build affordable housing? Why is the City Council allowing developers to bait and switch plans when their original proposals allow half the number of units and then the developer switches to over double the size of a project? Why wasn't at least 50% of the people on the planning committee for the corridors plan residents from the side of town most impacted by the corridor plan? Why are there bright lights that shine all night behind Dunk-in Donuts disturbing neighborhoods? •Why is the re-zoning planning on heights of 5 stories and higher? •Why are Parking (requirements for parking spaces for new units are being reduced or removed) •The city of Seattle is a mess why is our city council listening to recommendations from consultants who made many of the problems for Seattle? Why isn't the city council asking detailed questions of planning personnel when they site part of the research on housing without asking if the research was done in a beach town? Why doesn't the police department arrest criminals who steal bicycles worth over $950 when that offense is grand theft? •Why is the re-zoning on the corridors allowing for a reduction in privacy (higher buildings = less privacy in backyards) •Why are high building being considered for re-zoning when the buildings are so close they do not allow Solar access? •Lines in grocery stores are long now, how will we accommodate an increase on the corridors? Why isn't Neighborhood character/integrity part of the corridor plan? Why is the planning committee planning proposing re- zoning to allow unsupervised dormitories on Soquel Ave and Water St.? •Why isn't the planning committee considering the loss of light to the neighborhoods with re-zoning for 5 and 6 story buildings? Why isn't the planning committee considering the added expense of adding more firefighters, police, and paramedics to support the needs of more citizens and the burden to our hospitals? Come to the meeting tonight an ask these questions and others. Show you care about Santa Cruz. Be there!
