I am an international student at Utrecht University, an institution that takes pride in its international inclusivity. International students paid over 20,000 euros to be part of this welcoming community. Unfortunately, my experience doesn't match up with the promise of comfort. I am not alone in this; many fellow students hailing from Italy, Indonesia, Turkey, France, Portugal, Japan, Iran, and many more countries share the same discomfort.

The lack of culturally sensitive facilities, particularly in the bathrooms, is disturbing. Unavailability of bidets or showerheads along with the absence of complimentary hygienic products affects not only our physical comfort but also our mental wellbeing. 

According to the international student barometer, cleanliness and personal comfort have a significant impact on the overall student experience (Taylor, 2018). It's time Utrecht University upgrades its facilities to accommodate students from diverse backgrounds and provide a truly inclusive environment.

We request Utrecht University to introduce:

1. Toilet cover seats
2. alcohol dispensers in all of its bathroom facilities and
3. provide free pads and other free hygienic products.

By doing so, the University would confirm its commitment to inclusion and students’ well-being.
