Save South Park Trees – Stop Dec. 14 Tree Demolition

Save South Park Trees – Stop Dec. 14 Tree Demolition

The Issue

San Francisco's oldest park–featured in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine–is used by a diverse array of people every day. It includes meadows, benches, lunch tables, and beautiful majestic trees. Yet, the city is about to destroy at least 33 of these vital trees – despite a certified arborist report recommending pruning some trees, and removing just one: "Trees at South Park are vigorous and in generally good health." So why is the city destroying South Park's trees, beginning Dec. 14? It's part of a multi-million-dollar overhaul that will shut down the park for up to six months, and cost taxpayers at least $1 million – money that could help fix dilapidated parks in poor parts of town that truly need it. Instead, let's save beautiful healthy trees, save money, prune and green where it's needed, and keep South Park beautiful and diverse.
