Prior to COVID-19, food delivery apps like UberEats, Postmates, DoorDash and Grubhub were charging extremely high fees to struggling restaurants, charging restaurants as much as 30% per order.

In April, as food delivery became the only available lifeline for restaurants, San Francisco Mayor London Breed joined with Supervisors Peskin, Safai and Mandelman to announce a 15% cap on commissions to allow restaurants to recover. 

Now, the emergency 15% cap on delivery commissions is about to expire - and restaurants cannot afford to go back!

Restaurants deserve the opportunity to fully recover from this pandemic. High commissions and predatory practices will decimate the restaurant industry while they are already struggling. Restaurants should not be saddled with the entire cost of convenience to the customer.

Our demands are simple:

• Extend the 15% fee cap that UberEats, DoorDash, Postmates and Grubhub can charge to restaurants for delivery and other related services for at least 2 years.
• Allow restaurants to set their own in-app prices on menu items so that they have an opportunity to recover delivery fees and other related operational expenses.
• Allow restaurants to quickly and easily cancel their contracts within 72 hours of providing notice to a customer service representative.
