In many areas of San Diego while we walk about our daily routines we frequently pass by public designs called Hostile Architecture. This is no ordinary architecture because it is used to push out a particular group of people, those living in our streets. The homeless have been treated as lesser human beings due to the way our society reacts to them and hostile or anti homeless architecture is just another way to dehumanize an entire group of people, telling them they are not wanted here. 

San Diego's local government, which includes the city council members, allows this type of architecture to be implemented into our public spaces. Our brothers and sisters across the pond in England had a similar issue when the City of Bournemouth implemented hostile architecture. More than 20,000 members of the community signed a similar petition forcing the council to recognized the outcry which resulted in the removal of the architecture. If they can achieve change from their council members by using their voices then so can we. 

This matters because I have been a California resident since 2010 and I am all too familiar with seeing the suffering and struggles that thousands of homeless people experience in almost every city in this state. Instead of dumping tons of money into anti homeless solutions we need to put money towards affordable housing. This is the first step towards that goal.
