Turn & Preserve the house of Former Speaker Eugenio Perez to Museum/Tourist Spot/Landmark
The Issue
The old house at Perez Boulevard is the house of the former Speaker of the House of the Philippines, none other than Eugenio Padlan Perez. The Speaker of the House is the floor leader of the Philippine House of Representatives or The Congress. During in 1926 he was elected as a municipal councilor in San Carlos City. In 1945-1946 and 1954-57, Speaker Perez brought honor, respect, and glory to San Carlos City and to the Province of Pangasinan as the Majority and Minority floor leader of the House respectively. He has helped secure a path way for the BELL TRADE ACT of the Philippines. He was the first ever Speaker of the House coming from the Province of Pangasinan and the City of San Carlos.
This being said, he has become such a great part of the city's growth and history that we must preserve his former home. We must turn his house into a museum and restore the house into it's original state. We can replace some of the old broken wood paneling, the old steal roofing, restore and replace some of the antique tiles and among others. We can request his living relatives to donate some of the old things that was used in the house of the speaker, such as old beds, pots, pans, cabinets, pictures, clothes, and among others.
The City of San Carlos should then create a tourism department that will cater and preserve the old house. They should provide maintenance, train tour guides (equip them with the needed knowledge about speaker Perez, the Family of the Padlan-Perez and the House of Speaker Perez), lights, and what ever is needed to attract people to visit the house, and the city. This can all be achieved by getting the help of the Provincial Tourism Office and the National Tourism Office through the RA 10066.
With the preservation and maintenance of the House of Speaker Perez, we can preserve the proud history in the city and tell the next generation of leaders of who speaker Perez was. This will open up a tourism industry in the city, and among others.
