Elect Dorien Rogers for SGA President

The Issue

VIRTUAL/ IN PERSON POLLS OPEN WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24TH AT 8:00AM TO FRIDAY, MARCH 26TH AT 5:00PM

During the spring 2020 school year, we made it a point to come up out by the hundreds to vote for a vision. A vision shared by many who want Salisbury University to live up to the notion that we as an SU community must come together to develop a safe, diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive campus community. This is not just through word- but through action. Although we came up short in that election, we continued to advance our efforts through our voices, through our actions, and through our commitment to Action not Words. My fellow peers, the time has finally come to advance what we've started. It is time to get our fellow students involved. It is time to come out and vote for Dorien Rogers as your next Student Government Association President. Voting begins Wednesday, March 24th at 8:00AM to Friday, March 26th at 5:00PM. Understanding we get a lot of emails, look out for updates for videos and FAQs on topics you want to discuss! If you support this vision, please sign this petition, share with your friends, and vote for Dorien Rogers for SGA  President!! Also please continue to check your emails for election information! Also share share because sharing is caring :) !!! Follow me on instagram @dmrogers1123 and subscribe on youtube Dorien Rogers. If you ever want to talk about things you want to see happen at SU or just want to talk about your day feel free to DM me or email!! We can grab commons, starbucks especially with me learning about "strawberry refreshers with lemonade", HungryMinds, or just a phone call!

Who is Dorien Rogers??

As a Junior and double major of Political Science and International Studies, Dorien is heavily involved on campus. Within Dorien's three year tenure in SGA, Dorien has coordinated many events ranging from our Annual International Day, to the first ever Deaf is not Dumb events. In addition, Dorien is the author of SGA Resolution Action not Words which was formulated by the desires of you- the students. Furthermore, Dorien served on countless committees ranging from the 2019 President's Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion created to provide effective recommendations to advise the President towards creating an safe and inclusive SU, the Campus Climate Study Committee which was a group formulated to assess the campus climate (sentiments) of Salisbury University, the Vice President of Student Affairs Advisory Board for Diversity and Inclusion, the Diversity and Inclusion Consortium committee, and more! In addition to SGA, Dorien is a second year Resident Assistant (known by many as Grandma or SoccerDad) in Seagull Square, a 3rd year member of the award winning Model United Nations Club, and a volunteer for the student led Food for the Flock food pantry. Dorien is also an Accessibility Advocate following his training by Disability Resource Center. He is also a Truman fellowship finalist for the national Truman Fellowship.

Despite my heavy involvement on campus from programming to developing action items to merely interacting with my fellow students, the commonality they all hold is the emphasis of developing a campus culture that is willing to apply what they've learned in developing an equitable and inclusive SU community, From advancing the push to diversify our curriculum, to implementing a desired diversity training, I have been a constant force in ensuring all students voices are heard which is acknowledged with actions. In addition, I have been a consistent figure in fighting to secure greater resources and staff for crucial offices that are crucial to the wellbeing and success of our SU students. These offices include the Counseling Center which is well below the average set by the International Accreditation for Counseling Services (IACS), Disability Resource Center which also possesses lower staff numbers despite a growing need, and Multicultural Student Services which is crucial in helping students of marginalized groups get acclimated to campus yet SU's push for diversity, equity, and inclusion has only dissolved the position with little to no growth despite our calls for more resources. If elected your SGA President, I will not only work to maintain the social contract we share alongside faculty, staff, and the administration, but will fight to ensure that SU is held accountable in developing a campus community that welcomes all through their actions and words.
