It’s essential for us to be able to have guests in our dorm rooms like a regular year. With the restrictions, the college faces the risk of mental health issues being brought on to students, students moving off-campus, and decreased participation in Saint Mary’s events. The restrictions won’t have much of an effect as all the SMC students will go to Notre Dame. ND is 90% vaccinated, and SMC is 88%. We got vaccinated in order to start our college experience and get back to everyday life, not to feel like a prisoner again. We are beginning our years of becoming adults, and because of that, we need to be able to make decisions about who we allow in OUR space. We could even consider proof of vaccination as a part of letting guests upstairs. There are other less strict alternatives, though, that should be considered. This will also cause students to retaliate and sneak around for social interaction. Please consider letting go of these restrictions.
