Please follow expert veterinary advice and avoid milk from farms that are involved in the "free shooting" of badgers.
The Issue
Sainsbury's say they have an ethical policy for sourcing their products, that policy is clearly worthless, badgers are dying slow painful deaths and Sainsbury's are refusing to speak out against it.
Our badgers are being killed on farms that supply Sainsbury's with milk, they are killed using two methods:
1) cage trapped and then shot
2) "free shooting"
The second method of free shooting involves badgers being lured to bait points of peanuts, where they will often come in family groups and then be shot by gunmen, the method was ruled by an expert government panel to be "inhumane" as up to 20% of badgers were taking over 5 minutes to die and as long as 18 minutes to die, after multiple shots.
Sainsbury's have stated that they do not want to penalise all the farmers within the geographical location of the cull zones, We are not asking them to do that, what we are asking is to specifically not source milk from farms involved in the free shooting of badgers
The British Veterinary Association is also firmly against this method of free shooting and has advised the government that no roll out of the culls should use this method.
Please in the first instance contact Sainsbury's via customer services: customerservice@sainsburys.co.uk and request that they must specifically stop sourcing milk from the farms involved in "free shooting" and that they should get written commitments from all the farms they source milk from that this method will not be used.
