Why this petition matters

Started by Julianne Danna

With increased traffic on Frederick Road, speeding, and no shoulder at the light at Plumtree, runners, walkers, and bicyclists cannot safely access the resources at Miller Library, the 50+ Center, and the Farmer's Market. The expansion of the turn and additional lane at the light leaves absolutely no room for a pedestrian to walk on Frederick Road safely. Previous requests to the county and state have said that they cannot easily put a bridge across Plumtree Branch, however a brand new bridge and sidewalk was just added between Gray Rock and Font Hill over the Little Patuxent River.

Dunloggin has a variety of age groups that call the area home. We have ample new families moving in as well as an older generation who are happily aging in place. A safe walking space on Frederick is necessary to allow everyone to reach the community resources located so close to our neighborhood, yet out of reach. There is no reason why a resident on Underoak should need to get in their car to drive to the library when it is less than half a mile away. Walking is risking your life with drivers turning from Plumtree and eastbound cars on Frederick swerving to the side to avoid left turners onto Plumtree.

There are many additional walking projects that need to be addressed but this should be a quick and easy remedy (a much smaller project than recently completed at Gray Rock) will not only improve quality of life, but will provide green infrastructure improvements designed to promote walking and biking vs car use.
