The Issue

Neighbors, BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front): The Dunes community urgently needs effective safety measures to protect residents from unsafe commuter traffic.
The Situation As Marina continues to grow, our residential streets are seeing a dramatic increase in commuter traffic. Development is only accelerating, and with more people comes more cars cutting through our neighborhood to avoid the 2nd Street/Imjin Road light. While we welcome responsible drivers, the current volume and widespread disregard for speed limits and stop signs is creating an unacceptable safety risk for our families.   Who Matters? You matter. Your children walking to school, your neighbor out with their dog, retirees staying active, military families who choose this community for its quality of life — everyone who calls The Dunes home deserves safe streets.   Why This Matters The #1 concern is SAFETY. Residents across The Dunes share the same sentiment: speeding and unsafe commuter traffic have reached a tipping point. Despite raising concerns, the City of Marina has not implemented meaningful safety measures to protect our neighborhood. If nothing changes, it is only a matter of time before serious accidents — or worse — occur on our streets. As taxpaying residents, we should expect basic safety protections where we live. What We’re Asking For Any of the following solutions would immediately improve safety: Speed bumps
Speed-monitoring radar signs
Increased Marina PD traffic enforcement
(Long-term solution) Consideration of gating the community Where the Problem Occurs Most High-risk commuter cut-through routes include: 3rd Ave, 4th Ave, and California Ave → to 8th & 9th Ave (mornings) 8th & 9th Ave → to 3rd, 4th, and California (evenings) Drivers are using these streets to bypass the 2nd/Imjin light — at the expense of our safety. Why I’m Leading This Effort Although I am currently a renter, I am also a Naval Officer, father, and husband. I care deeply about living in a community where our children can safely walk down the street, and where every resident — present and future — is protected by responsible infrastructure. This petition is the starting point for advocating improvements that our community deserves. When we stand together, the City of Marina will hear us. Add Your Voice I invite you to sign this petition so we can collectively demand action that ensures the safety, well-being, and future of The Dunes community. Very Respectfully, Brandon T. Ellis
