Safe Streets for Laurel Woods
The Issue
Petition for Crosswalk Visibility and Pedestrian Safety
We, the residents of Laurel Woods, are calling on the City of Cornelius to take immediate action to improve pedestrian safety in our neighborhood. Our children, families, and neighbors deserve safe, visible, and accessible crosswalks throughout the area.
We respectfully request the following improvements:
Crosswalk Painting
High-traffic crosswalks at Ginger & 26th, Heather & 26th, Jasper & 24th and Heather & Jasper need to be painted for visibility and safety.
Parking Spaces at Parks
Clearly painted parking spaces are needed near parks with reservable pavilions—specifically Dogwood Park and Mariposa Park—to better manage congestion and improve pedestrian safety.
No Parking Zones
Yellow-painted no-parking areas are needed directly in front of crosswalks to ensure visibility and reduce hazards.
Flashing Light Crosswalks
We request the installation of flashing pedestrian crosswalks at:
Dogwood Park on Ginger & 26th Street
Jasper & 26th Street, in the roundabout closest to Mariposa Park
Tree Trimming to Increase Visibility
The trees near the crosswalk at Jasper & 26th currently obstruct drivers’ views of pedestrians. We request that the City trim back these trees to restore clear sightlines and improve safety.
We urge the City to prioritize these actions for the safety and well-being of all who live, walk, and play in Laurel Woods.
