Safe crossings needed at the junction of Seven Sisters Road and Hornsey Road in Islington
The Issue
We are launching this petition to the Mayor of London, Transport for London (TfL) and Islington Council to make it safer to walk, wheel and cycle to get to shops on and around Seven Sisters Road.
We are concerned about the safety of crossing this major road, which is used by people at all hours of the day in a very busy part of our city and our borough. The current crossings provided are insufficient for protecting the residents and visitors who need to get around.
The junction between Seven Sisters Road and Hornsey Road is dangerous because several of the crossing arms do not have ‘red/green man’ controls, meaning pedestrians have to decide for themselves when the right moment to cross is. This isn’t always clear, and is dangerous. We believe there is a strong case for adding pelican crossing controls (a button activated crossing for pedestrians with traffic lights for the vehicles) for each road crossing at the junction and clear pedestrian markings on the carriageway.
