Citizens Advice Epping Forest started this petition to Sadiq Khan (Mayor of London) and

Young students, aged 11-18 tend to lose or break their oyster zip card at least once which was shown on a survey taken of secondary students in London. This is an unfortunate situation as they will be going to school daily and would have to use their zip card to travel. The London Mayor will be able to help us with this petition as he is responsible for Transport for London. We would like temporary oyster zip cards to be issued to students aged 11-18 if their card is lost or broken.

If the card is lost or stolen, they are sent off the bus unless they can pay full fare. They will have to find another way of getting to school or pay for the bus which are all setbacks as the cost of bus travel was originally free. The replacement card takes up to five days to be delivered which means the cost of travel will not be for one day only. It is not fair to be forced off busses and made potentially late for school when you are in your school uniform, ultimately this could result in a loss of education for those few days.

As travel would have been free with the oyster zip card and it is evident you are going to a place of education in your school uniform, there should not be a need to pay. Therefore, temporary cards would be the best solution in this case. These can be physical cards or electronic cards as an alternative, to save resources.

The cost can be quite expensive for parents on benefits or low income. The students end up late to school and tired when they get there from the stress of the journey. They may even face detention for being late and will miss out on their education. None of this is fair. We therefore want the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan to look into this issue.

Please support this petition and help make a positive change for young people in London.

Thank you.
