Our Saco School Board members have decided to push forward on plans to build a new mega school building that will service over 700 Pre-K through 2nd grade children in Saco. This new building will cost a projected 28 million dollars and has the potential to reduce home values when Fairfield and Young School are closed.  It will move our youngest students to the outskirts of town and away from the heart of our community. But the worst part of this plan is that it goes against numerous research findings that small schools are better for children than large schools. One study done by the state of North Carolina found that “smaller schools are associated with better behavioral outcomes, higher rates of participation in extracurricular activities, and higher achievement.”* The majority of our teachers support small schools and we believe our community members do as well.  Please protect the children of Saco's first learning experience.  Help stop the Saco School Board's plans to build a mega school that will merge Young and Fairfield Schools.
