Sabrina Carpenter: Remove Disrespectful Scenes from 'Feather' Music Video

The Issue

In Sabrina Carpenter's recent music video for 'Feather,' scenes unfolded that demonstrated a severe lack of reverence and the distressing desecration of a Roman Catholic Altar at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn. It's vital to emphasize that the Eucharist, at the very core of our faith, was present in the tabernacle just a few feet away during these scenes. The Altar, where the Sacrifice of the Mass takes place daily, is the conduit to our deepest communion with the Most Holy Trinity.

Quoting from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1368): "The Eucharist is also the sacrifice of the Church... Christ's sacrifice present on the altar makes it possible for all generations of Christians to be united with his offering.", and (1375) "It is by the conversion of the bread and wine into Christ's body and blood that Christ becomes present in this sacrament."

With a global membership exceeding 1.3 billion individuals, the actions in Carpenter's video are deeply disrespectful to our faith. Our church Altars symbolize a place of divine communion with God, not the place to stage a campy music video for shock value and trend-ability.

While I acknowledge the diversity of artistic expression, I firmly believe that there must be boundaries in place to uphold respect for religious beliefs and practices. This is especially true for the oldest practicing Christian faith, spanning over 2,000 years.

We firmly request that Sabrina Carpenter and her production team consider the removal of scenes desecrating the Altar at The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church from her music video. Doing so would be a sign of respect for millions of Catholics worldwide who find these depictions deeply offensive.

We invite you to sign this petition if you share our conviction that pop culture should maintain respect for sacred faith spaces.
