Frank Lenor started this petition to Sabah Randhawa

The outbreak of coronavirus, or COVID-19, originated in a seafood market in Wuhan, China with over 80,000 cases confirmed so far, causing nearly 3,000 deaths. The virus can stay in the body for two weeks without the carrier showing any symptoms.

Students and staff alike are able to transmit the virus to their peers and other public places without their knowledge, heightening the chance of community spread in the city of Bellingham.

In light of the new information that there have already been 6 deaths from COVID in Washington state, in King and Snohomish County. Gov. Jay Inslee (D) declared a state of emergency on Saturday and 231 Washington residents remain under public healths supervision.

We are asking Sabah Randhawa, the president of Western Washington University Bellingham to close campus to prevent further spread of this virus. Since the virus can lay dormant for 2 weeks or even more in some cases; the classrooms, dining halls, and other crowded areas would increase the rate of spread for the virus exponentially.

Considering this, we urge WWU-Bellingham Campus to make the responsible decisions and to close campus and facilities in order to prevent the possibility of the infection reaching students, their families, and the rest of the community.
