The proposed name change is Mandelaberg. We the coloured decendants of the Khoisan feel this name inappropriate and does no dignity to the memory of the Khoisan. We the decendants would like the name changed to the Khoisan chief historically known as "Herry die Strandlooper ",none other than chief Autshumato. The new name should be Autshumato mountain range. Reason being Nelson Mandela being a great statesman and held in high regard has no connection with the mountain range. He is a Xhosa man born and bred in the Eastern Cape. Chief Autshumao or Autshumato on the other hand would of gazed apon the mountain range on a daily basis. Nelson Mandela himself accredited this chief as the very first freedom fighter. I don't think Nelson Mandela RIP would mind the honour of the mountain range going to this great chief of the original Cape peninsular Khoisan. Somehow South African history has come short of honouring this larger than life character. His historical relevance has been downplayed to a lazy beach strolling vagabond that met Jan van Riebeeck as he came ashore. Yet in reality this chief was an extraordinary leader of the  peninsular Khoisan. He led the 1 st war of resistance to the Dutch settlers. He was the very 1st prisoner of Robben island. Him and an accomplice was the only prisoners ever to escape Robben Island. He was kidnapped to Batavia and England. Could read,write, speak Portuguese,Dutch and English fluently. Was a master at negotiating and political intrigue. Was the very 1st postmaster of the port of Cape Town. Therefore the mountain range should be changed to Autshumato mountain range in honour and remembrance of this great Khoisan chief
