Part of the purpose of Rutland County Council's Constitution is to encourage participation in decision making & to secure better representation of the views of the public. In light of the most recent independent hunting poll from Ipsos MORI as well as complaints made about The Cottesmore Hunt (examples below), feel free ask them how they are representing the majority of people opposed to fox hunting. The decision will be made by Council Leader Kenneth Bool. You can ask him whether he thinks he's adhering to the Constitution by emailing kbool@rutland.gov.uk. Be polite, and have a look at...
- 05:00 to 05:30 in the video below for Councillor Jasmine Hopkins talking about 'quite a few' concerns from members of the public about the Council supporting the Hunt and the lack of public consultation on this. While at the time those concerns were passed from Rutland County Council to Oakham Town Council, they now apply to the decision that lies in the hands of Rutland County Council.
- Ipsos MORI published the results of the most recent animal welfare/hunting poll on 29/09/2016, and found that 84% of the public oppose fox hunting, with 76% of rural constituents being more likely to view anti-hunting political representatives favourably or very favourably, see here: http://tinyurl.com/huhfh2p
- A complaint made to Oakham Town Council about their support of The Cottesmore Hunt, see here: http://tinyurl.com/z5sdbvh
- Rutland County Council's Constitution says that the purpose of the Constitution is to 'support the active involvement of citizens in the decision making process' and to 'help councillors represent their constituents more effectively', see for yourself here: http://tinyurl.com/h9myne5
