Pay Rutgers Dining Employees a Competitive Wage
Pay Rutgers Dining Employees a Competitive Wage

Rutgers dining services is currently facing a massive understaffing problem, a problem which has resulted in shorter hours and some locations not even opening. (ex. Henry's diner). This problem will persist as long as Rutgers continues to pay only $12 an hour to dining services employees. It simply does not make sense in the current labor market for individuals to choose to work for $12 an hour without tips, when entry-level retail jobs often pay $15 an hour and food service jobs often pay $12 an hour plus tips. I myself considered working for Rutgers dining services but decided not to because of the non-competitive wages. It is paramount that Rutgers addresses this issue, as the short hours dining halls are open is one of the issues students complain about the most. Dining Services employees work hard to feed Rutgers, and it is about time they begin to be fairly compensated for doing so. If Rutgers can afford to spend thousands of dollars to have Snoop Dogg perform, it should be able to pay Dining Services employees a competitive wage. Please sign this petition to show Rutgers that you are fed up with short hours and want them to address the root of what is causing them!
