Rutgers University recently announced that all incoming first year students would receive an iPad Air 256GB edition with 2 years of Apple Care+, a carrying case, discounts on software, and discounts on accessories as an offer for missing out on the college experience. Instead of just offering it to students who are incoming to the university, this should be offered to all active students as we all are missing out on this experience. This especially goes for the class of 2020 graduates who spent years at this institution only to be given an online graduation, if anyone deserves something for missing out on a “college experience” its them. If anything Rutgers needs to rethink what this shows after cutting hundreds of jobs and wages for their employees, not offering a tuition cut for online classes besides a measly $300 off student fees for programs and facilities we can’t access, and professors taking advantage of this opportunity to make books required that are outdated or brand new and cannot be rented. This show of free iPads for first year students does nothing but show that this institution does not know where it’s money comes from or where it should be focusing its spending in order to support the “World Class Education” on the banks of the Raritan they offer.
