Release Russian animal advocate detained for protesting the policy to kill stray dogs in Sochi
The Issue
On February 8, 2014, three Russian animal rights advocates were holding a peaceful protest to draw attention to the government's policy to kill stray dogs in preparation for the Sochi Olympics. A banner was unfurled and one of the advocates was detained by police for his actions. We are concerned that the detainee will suffer as a result of speaking out against this policy to kill stray dogs, an atrocity which people around the world oppose.
