RuPaul, just listen please.

RuPaul, just listen please.
The Issue
The Queer community has been one of the most condemned and mistreated minority groups in America for decades. We have fought hard for the limited rights and privileges that we have today. And those battles were fought on the backs of Trans Men and Women. Specifically Trans Women of Color. RuPaul has built himself a career that has shed so much positive light on our community and made an absorbent amount of queens capable of so much more than anyone ever thought would be possible, and for that we commend him. But for someone who preaches “everybody say love” he really struggles with his own discrimination against Trans Drag Performers and AFAB Performers competing on his show.
It’s quite perplexing and quite contradictory due to the “message” he spreads on his show. For decades the Trans community has been on the frontlines of the war for our rights to love, to marry, and be visible. Time and time again the cis white gay males are the ones to benefit the most, while simultaneously and conveniently forgetting our Trans Brothers and Sisters. Our siblings who can’t begin to forget us because we are waving our privileges in their faces while also being their only gateway to widespread acceptance and understanding. We have to stand up for them the way they died for us and continue die for being brave enough to live their lives.
So my hope and message is this:
RuPaul, please look at everything you’ve gained from your hard work and tenacity. Realize that those opportunities were provided because so many struggled before you. And if you still feel the way you do about taking our Trans Sinlings along for the ride, then please sit down for a candid interview with a Trans Celebrity of your choice. Good luck finding one. They don’t have nearly as many opportunities. Explain yourself. Give us all the chance to finally see it your way, through your eyes. Why is it more important to keep them out of your club than it is to give them the spotlight they’ve bled to earn.
Please sign and share. We as a community, especially the white cis males, need to step up and make a difference.
