Rules Change! Keep "Intact" High School Rosters out of Little League Tournaments!!
The Issue
"Beginning with the 2025 season, the Mandatory Play requirement does not apply to the 12-16yr old Senior League Softball or Senior League Baseball Divisions of play."
High School Softball teams are generally not allowed to risk injury to play Little League ball during the Spring Season. However, many states have ZERO rules in regards to wether or not they allow HS players to participate on Rec teams during their HS seasons.
There is a big difference in resources available when comparing a HS Program and a Little League .
High School Roster = 3yrs +/- same teammates-------Paid staff and trainers
Little league Roster = 8 wk season, 2 wks practice------Volunteers
2 totally different rule books. 2 totally different programs. The 12-16 age group in Little League are not allowed to go play High School Teams during our season for Little League safety + Insurance concerns. Why does a High School Team decide to show up during the Little League Allstar Tournament?
Intact High School Programs should NEVER come into Little League during All-Star season, just to crush these Little League kids who weren't able to compete with High School Players to begin with. Im all for adding eligible high school players to each Allstar roster but there needs to be a mandated rule brought into place for the 12-16yr old division, so that No Intact or nearly Intact high school Rosters would be allowed to come directly into little league strictly for ALLSTARS. If you want to play in the All-Star tournament you should sign up at your local Little League in the beginning of the season.
Little league sports are designed to bring young players of similar ages and experience levels together, fostering growth, team spirit, and sportsmanship. When these young athletes, who have put in months of practice and dedication, are pitted against seasoned high school teams, it shatters their confidence and diminishes their passion for the game. They lose the fair chance to compete when paired against these powerhouse programs.
If Little league players cannot play with other similarly competitive Allstar teams in a balanced environment, the concept of an Allstar team becomes meaningless. We must uphold the integrity and purpose of little league sports by restricting eligibility for INTACT TEAMS that are strictly from High School Programs. High school players should always be eligible by age to play in their local little league. But there needs to be a Cap on how many players from the same High school program, can be on the same local little league Allstar Roster. This would incorporate higher skilled allstar players and lower skilled allstar players on the same team. Versus unevenly putting them against each other. The better team will have a clear advantage.
This issue demands immediate attention and action from little league officials. We must protect our children’s love for the sport and ensure they have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. Join me in urging the Little League International to establish strict eligibility criteria that prevent high school teams from participating in little league tournaments. Sign this petition to take a stand for fair play and the future of our young athletes. Inverness Little League Girls deserved a fair chance against the only team they faced in the District Tournament. Now, Hudson High School Softball is moving onto Sectionals from District 15.
