At present, and before COVID became an issue, the decision was made to remove "Ear Wax removal" from the menu of services provided by the NHS. As hearing aid wearers know the presence of a hearing aid in the ear leads to compaction of the ear wax and gradually this compaction completely covers the eardrum.

The need to wear a hearing aid means that there is already a problem with ones hearing. The compaction of ear wax only adds to the problem and the offered solution of using oil to soften the wax and to allow nature to remove it does not work.

The method of removal offered by the NHS uses warm water under pressure to dislodge the wax , or a suction method was offered, The necessity to have ear wax removed before a hearing test is offered by the NHS means that wearers are now in a catch 22 situation. Ear wax present = no hearing test.
