Kill Brain Tumours: accelerate access to medicines for patients
The Issue
In memory of far too many people:-
On Christmas Eve 2011, our dear friend Pauline Lonsdale lost her battle.
On behalf of Pauline and everyone else we want to ensure that innovative and potentially life-saving therapies are made available to brain tumour patients as quickly as possible.
Here are two initiatives which would enable this:-
Early Access to Medicines Scheme (EAMS):This would allow patients with the rarest conditions and who are willing to take higher risks, to take experimental drugs where there are no other viable options. This will then form the basis of evaluation with the aim of developing precision medicines.
Adaptive Pathways (also known as adaptive medicine): An approach that would accelerate the licensing of drugs earlier than at present, whilst continuing to assess the effectiveness of the drug after the initial licensing.
This petition calls upon the UK Department of Health:
- To properly resource EAMS and enable brain tumour patients to have access to drugs which have the potential for efficacy.
- To support the Adaptive Pathways approach which improves the efficiency of the drug development process, following the pilot by the European Medicines Agency
Please add your support and request that all friends and family do the same. Together we can kill brain tumours.
