To increase the sentence received for animal cruelty charges

The Issue

The current sentences charged to those that inflict animal cruelty/abuse are massively less than those that would be given if the abuse was inflicted on a human being. This view is speciesist and is not ethically sustainable.

It is heartbreaking that a person can inflict unecessary pain and suffering on animals that are completely reliant on a humans care. Mostly these acts are barbaric and represent extreme cases of torture. It is likely there would be a decrease in such acts if charges were increased to a reasonable level, in comparison to what would be issued if the act was committed on another human - especially those dependent on another persons care.
