Help make pet desexing costs easier for people struggling financially on the NW coast TAS!

The issue

The North West coast of Tasmania is one of the poorest parts of the state with low income, high unemployment rates and stray and neglected animals on the rise.

Please give the Devonport RSPCA TAS the ability to hand out, or send to your local veterinary clinic, vouchers for discounted desexing to those with financial issues. Having to travel hours to either get a voucher from the RSPCA in Launceston or to a vets surgery that will accept vouchers obtained from other low cost desexing organisations is just not an option for many individuals when having limited transport or high cost of fuel prices does not allow that. With employment harder to obtain in this part of Tasmania, individuals have a hard time sustaining themselves and their pets properly. With the benefit of local cheaper desexing, overpopulation of domestic animals would not be so prevalent and numbers of native wildlife would not diminish so frequently.

I started this petition after rescuing a 12-18 month old heavily pregnant cat who had already had a previous litter only months earlier. Some of the kittens from the previous litter had been killed on the road and the rest were in terrible condition. The new litter of kittens that we helped raised were also incredibly hard to find homes for when they were old enough.

This incident had opened my eyes to how terrible it can be for a cat who has not been desexed to be outside and able to breed repeatedly.
