I am sorry for the readers of this petition who emailed Cowra Council General Manager (see last update) if they did not get a response.
I also emailed this Manager and apart from my compliant about the cruelty issue with the solitary cat I also complained about the appalling health hazards that have existed here for over 4 years now. The photo shows some of the rubbish that not only impacts on the poor cat but also the residents of the area. It is very close to the cat enclosure and attracts rats, mice and snakes.
Therefore it is no surprise to me that the readers did not get a reply, and the General Manager’s disregard for local ratepayers or the public at large seems to be par for the course!
Readers have urged me to contact the Animal justice party. I emailed Mark Pearson of the Animal Justice Party on 19-01-2019. To date he has not responded. I also emailed Animal Liberation NSW, and again did not receive a response.
As the Animal Justice Party and Animal Liberation NSW have been approached and have not responded maybe it was unrealistic to think Cowra Council would respond!
The bottom line with all this writing is that no one who can effect change seems bothered and that poor cat passes its days in absolute boredom. Nights are now getting much colder here in Cowra and it will soon have to spend another freezing winter in solitude.
However I shall not let this matter drop and will approach others who may be genuinely concerned enough to effect change for the improvement of animal welfare.
I should like to add that it was Cowra Shire Council who allowed up to 33 cats to be kept by the animal abuser. Whilst Council was up for re election promises were made to enforce better animal welfare, however that did not eventuate. Although Council took matters to the Land and Environment Court they elected to discontinue action. Overall I suspect that Council’s casual indifference to enforcing POCTA may be due to poor local governance and administrative practices. Possibly the General Manager’s decision to not respond to inquiries sent in by my readers may be a demonstration of this.
More on this another time. Thanks to everyone for their continued support. Keith.
