Regarding any changes at Camp Kitty, well I cannot report any. Mc Cudden still comes and feeds the cats so that is an achievement, but the environment for the cats remains overgrown (see photo). The solitary cat still endures its life of absolute solitude for 23 hours 55 minutes of every 24 hours!
Recent events regarding the live sheep export trade have made me rejoining Animals Austalia. I did leave them over their inaction regarding Camp Kitty. However I now realise that they spend their time more concerned with larger issues and I feel I need to support them in these endeavours.
Politicians are coming under pressure to end the live export of animals and other issues relating to animal cruelty. Many, only when the realise that votes may be at stake, do they do something.
Below is a letter I sent to my Federal MP, now Deputy Leader of the Coalition Government, Mr Michael McCormack. I sent him two emails. To date he has not responded.
Maybe readers can ask him if he is concerned about animal cruelty issues in his electorate and now, as Deputy Prime Minister, of cruelty issues in Australia?
His email address is michael.mccormack.mp@aph.gov.au
Maybe at this late stage he will help the cats still imprisoned at Camp Kitty!
Dear Michael McCormack (7 Oct 2016)
Re - Ongoing cruelty issue at Camp Kitty
I write to you concerning a situation that has existed at Cowra for over 5 years and is still an ongoing problem. It involves an establishment called Camp Kitty, and there is a controversy regarding multiple cruelty issues, legal matters involving Cowra Council that have cost the ratepayers over $200,000 and the RSPCA'S involvement in these matters. The Police have also been involved and there has also been a public protest.
There is much to tell you about. I did email all the state MP'S on 22-11-15 so you may remember this and have a partial knowledge of the scenario. More detailed information is on my online petition site at change.org entitled Tell the RSPCA NSW that this is Cruel! There has also been TV coverage on Prime7 News and also newspaper articles in the Cowra Guardian.
Up to now Katrina Hodgkinson has dealt with the RSPCA at times on my behalf. She has pledged to do all she can to help close Camp Kitty, and I am sure she will gladly give you background information on the matter.
Katrina did inform me after writing to the RSPCA that they had informed her that there were `no welfare issues' at Camp Kitty. Soon after a Prime 7 News segment there was a massive raid on that establishment and now the RSPCA is letting the public know that the Camp Kitty owner faces 25 charges. This is a situation that you should be aware of, as I feel that Katrina was mislead, who in turn mislead me! If that is the case then it is a terrible indictment on a charity that accepts public funds, and their scant regard for our democratically elected representatives. So as a taxpayer I ask that you make enquiries on my behalf
However my priority, and it is a pressing one, is to save the cat that has suffered mental and physical torture all winter! The RSPCA has been informed twice in writing about this matter. (Please find copy of letter and photo attached).
Please could you contact the RSPCA and find out if they are gong to do about suitable accommodation for this animal?
I would also ask if you can enquire of the Minister Responsible for Administering POCTA if he can act to help save this cat
Because the weather is now warming soon snakes will be out and there is every likelihood that this cat will die. It has suffered so much, please encourage the RSPCA to act.
I would also like to advise you that I like to keep all the readers of my petition site up to date with developments. If you wish to keep any correspondences on this matter confidential please could you inform me. I will in time let all the State MP's informed of what has transpired.
I thank you in anticipation of you help in this matter.
Regards Keith (7-10-16)
