All over the country we see elastic bands strewn across our landscape.  Not only do these take many years to decompose and look bad, more importantly they can be very damaging for local wildlife who mistake the bands for worms.  At best, this causes confusion and frustration for the wildlife, at worst it can kill them.  There are many reports of hedgehogs and birds getting wrapped up in elastic bands.  If it isn't removed quickly, the animal grows and the band gets tighter until it starts cutting in to them, causing infection and ultimately death.

All we ask is that Rotal Mail delivery people take care not to throw the elastic bands on the floor and instead being them back to the depot where they can be reused or disposed of in the correct manner.
