Dear Greenwich Resident,

Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) is proposing to spend £37m of public funding to build a large all-through Church of England school on John Harrison Way, Greenwich Peninsula.

The residents of Greenwich Peninsula through Greenwich Millennium Village (GMVA) and City Peninsula Residents Associations strongly object to a religious selective school here.

St. Mary Magdalene’s admissions criteria prioritises pupils at the seven CofE primaries in Greenwich borough, and faith applicants from other boroughs across to Southwark. Community places are limited, only 1/3 of admissions, and criteria states CofE pupils as top priority. There is no cap on the number of faith places offered in the likely event of oversubscription.

Local non-Christian children living on Greenwich Peninsula, East Greenwich, Westcombe Park, Charlton and West Greenwich pupils risk being excluded from attending their nearest secondary school. 

Greenwich Peninsula is in the midst of a massive regeneration. Within a short 15 years, an international culturally diverse community has established itself here and is growing rapidly. With a population projected to reach up to 50,000 (based upon developers' plans), this community and Greenwich needs an inclusive secondary school which welcomes children of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds. 

The CoE owns existing school land nearby which is sitting empty. There is no demand for faith education on Greenwich Peninsula, given it has the lowest Christian population in the borough and no church.

As joint landowner (GLA &Knight Dragon), The Mayor has the power to decide on Greenwich Peninsula's school. 

Please support us to halt this socially divisive proposal which discriminates against Greenwich children.
