NYS Rte 13 has proven to be a dangerous two lane highway, where the speed limit for the majority is 55mph. There are constantly accidents at the intersections of NYS Rte 13 at Lower Creek Road, NYS Rte 13 at Warren Road and, NYS Rte 13 at Hanshaw Road. It seems the bulk of these accidents could have been prevented with the implementation of roundabouts at these specific intersections. 

Unfortunately these accidents will keep happening until something changes. Over the summer of 2024, there was a blinking light installed over the intersection of Lower Creek Rd and NYS Rte 13 and it has done very little to nothing to curb accidents at that location. That intersection is already large enough as to where a roundabout could be installed without needing to widen lanes or the roadway.

These roundabouts would do alot to help prevent unnecessary accidents that keep happening at these NYS Rte 13 intersections in Tompkins County. The roundabouts that were installed at the intersections on NYS Rte 13 in Horseheads have greatly reduced the amount of traffic accidents that used to happen at those same locations before the roundabouts were installed.
