This is a petition to stay in our dorm. We live in a quad and are against being removed from our dorm for the remodeling of another lounge. In Beard House, there is a lounge on the third floor. Everyone in Beard House is against having a second lounge, when the lounge on the third floor isn't used all the time, consistently, nor constantly. There is also another quad in Prescott a part of this issue, with them going through the same issue of being removed of their dorm. It is unfair and stressful that we all are worried constantly about this issue while getting adjusted to university. UCSC had the summer to change the rooms back into a lounge (which is their initial plan), but waited until classes started to do so. Nobody sees the point of a second lounge when all buildings have at least one that isn't often used.  It is unacceptable especially with the housing crisis happening at UCSC, that you remove students from their dorms for more lounging areas, when students struggle to obtain housing. We ask that UCSC allows us to stay in our dorms, and wait until next summer to add these lounging areas if needed since the academic year has already begun. This causes our mental health to decline rapidly due to stress, worry, and other emotional distress. We won't stand for this. It is not our fault as students, that UCSC admitted more students into Cowell College than advised, and we have to suffer the consequences as freshman, who should have guaranteed housing on campus and navigating through this issue because of housing while demanding classes are in session.
