Michelle Shiroma started this petition to Governor Ron DeSantis

The goal of this petition is to encourage Gov. Ron DeSantis (Florida Governor) to ban the use of fireworks in any residential area for multiple reasons:

1.  Residential users are not limiting fireworks deployment to just the three legal holidays per year.  Residents are deploying fireworks days immediately before and after these three legal holidays.

2. Some residents are ignoring the maximum decibels and Noise Ordinances.   For example, per Jacksonville Noise Ordinance, it is illegal to emit noises above 65 decibels before 10 pm any day of the year (holidays are irrelevant to the noise ordinance).  Decibel measurements have been taken with decibel levels exceeding 100 decibels.  The Noise Ordinances are being violated.

3.  In years of drought, residential owners are ignoring drought warnings and deploying fireworks which is a threat to other neighbors and other residential properties.

4.  There are some residents (and animals) that are particularly vulnerable to the loud noise disturbances (Veterans with PTSD, household pets, farm animals/livestock, and wildlife).  After effects can linger for days and months after residential fireworks deployment.
