Mercedes Brathwaite started this petition to Rollins College

As stated in the Former Arabic Studies Program at Rollins College, Arabic is the 5th most widely spoken native language in the world. Furthermore, the U.S. State Department has named Arabic a "critical language," which opens opportunities for scholarships and competitive grants for students of Arabic.

Study Abroad Programs to study Arabic are still available, but since Rollins College decided to end Arabic as a global language offered, it Jeopardizes the chance for MENA and Non-MENA minors who wish to study and excel in the Arabic language, by letting go of the only visiting professor who taught Arabic.

Arabic was introduced by Dr. Rachel Newcomb, former MENA director, to help strengthen the MENA minor department, and to Give the opportunity for Rollins students to explore one of the richest Languages in the World, and learning the language is an opportunity to explore global citizenship in the Middle East and Africa.

Sign this Petition, to ensure that the Arabic Language Program has a place at Rollins College.
