The issue

Wyndham Council is proposing to introduce 2P parking ( 11 am-3 pm Mon- Friday )near existing residential area in Little Green Estate at the site of Tarneit West station which is under construction. This residential area has around 300 lots with mostly small houses and narrow streets and this area although close to the planned site is not connected with any road except a small existing walking track to the station -so it's a bit weird that the council is planning this without consulting residents.

These streets were never designed for commuter flow as they are narrow and this decision impacts both safety and the quality of life in our neighbourhoods.Little kids play on these streets and opening these up to regular commuters will be a serious hazard .This also puts the safety of our area under risk and there is always an issue of altercation with a commuter as local residents have small blocks and often use street parking for parking their cars regularly.

The local residents haven't been consulted in this decision .

By cordoning off these residential streets with a "Permit Zone Only" or "Local Residents Excepted" policy, we can effectively manage parking demand. This measure prioritizes the needs of the residents and ensures that the street space is preserved for those who call this area home.

This scheme not only helps prevent commuter spillover but also respects the original planning intent of these neighbourhoods, which is to serve its residents first and foremost. Implementing such a program would mitigate parking hassles, enhance safety by reducing unnecessary traffic flow, and increase the livability of the neighborhoods.

We urge the Council to reconsider its approach and to rollback the existing 2P proposal in favor of a more community-centred scheme ,  Resident Parking Permit Scheme wherein we propose these areas to be cordoned off for use by local residents only and not open to general commuters.

By adopting this method, we can create a more organized, safer, and pleasant environment for all residents within the station periphery.

Please lend your support to make this change a reality by signing this petition and sharing it with others who value the integrity and safety of our local neighborhoods.
