Rollback NYU's predatory "Swipe it Forward" Program

The Issue

NYU's newly adjusted Swipe it Forward program makes food significantly less accessible for low income students, and those who may not have a meal plan. The previous version of the plan allowed for students who may not have been able to afford a meal plan or ran out of dining dollars/meal swipes to easily access food at the dinning halls located within residential buildings. Now under this new policy, hungry students are being turned away from dinning halls, as you are only able to redeem free meals once per week and if are any made available through other student's donation. This is unconscionable and done as an egregious cost cutting measure, in spite of its most at risk students.

Copied below (in part) is the email received regarding this program from the university.

Dear NYU Students,

Who Is Eligible to Redeem?
If you are an NYU student based in New York City and you do not have a meal plan or you have no meal swipes left and a dining dollar balance less than $15, then you are eligible to redeem one Swipe it Forward meal per week, if donated meals are available. (If you are not eligible, or there are no swipes available, and you are in need of emergency food assistance, please do not hesitate to contact nyucourtesymeals@nyu.edu who can provide assistance.)

How Meal Plan Members Can Donate
The Swipe It Forward program, of course, is dependent on swipe donations. Meal plan members can donate up to 3 meals per day, at the cashiers at the following dining halls: Kimmel, Lipton, Downstein, Kosher Eatery, Third North, U-Hall, 18 Below, Palladium, and Jasper Kane Cafe.
