Friends, Another NFL season has come and gone without the league taking a stand on paying hardworking cheerleaders a living wage. Commissioner Roger Goodell had many opportunities to do the right thing and refused; this is shameful for him, the NFL, and for everyone who supports the rights of workers. But that doesn’t mean we’re giving up. In fact, an exciting new piece of legislation has just been introduced in my home state of California that would force the NFL and all professional sports teams in the state to pay cheerleaders fairly. I’ve started a new petition asking California legislators to pass that law, AB 202, and set an example for others states to follow. She, too, is tired of waiting on professional sports teams to do the right thing and doesn’t want another season to start without cheerleaders being treated fairly. I’m hopeful that if enough people sign my petition, the legislation in California will pass and other legislators from other states will be inspired to take their own stands on behalf of cheerleaders.
