Rocky River City Schools is the only west side school district that currently does not offer an option for full day kindergarten. Surrounding suburbs such as Westlake, Bay Village, Avon, Avon Lake, and Fairview Park are all offering optional tuition-based full day kindergarten. We are seeking the development of a full-day kindergarten program in the Rocky River City Schools to offer: • More time to process information or work in small group or individualized instruction • A better ratio of transitional (i.e. backpacks, lining up, bathroom breaks, snack time, etc.) to instructional time. • Enhanced social and academic skills Some additional important facts to consider: • Nationally, 82% of all districts offer full day kindergarten. • Currently, many Rocky River families pay tuition to outside schools to achieve a full day of kindergarten, whether that is an enrichment program or a private school. • Due to Common Core, adopted in 2010, standards were changed in the classroom, yet no additional time was given to achieve these new standards.
