Challenge the 25% pay raise Rockwall Commissioners gave themselves before its too late

The Issue

We have watched for a generation as our publicly elected officials vote themselves raises, give themselves better healthcare, and exempt themselves from many of the laws the rest of us must follow or be punished.  The Rockwall county commissioners just voted themselves a raise (they called it an "adjustment") in excess of 20%, more than 4x what most county commissioners in Texas allow themselves!!

Elected officials should not be in charge of setting their own pay!

Do we really want to let these people follow the Congressional model and do whatever they want with our money?

Pay raises for public servants and officials should be limited to no more than inflation plus 2%!!   Most of us have never seen a pay raise over 5% in our lives. Yet Judge David Sweet and his commissioners just gave themselves a 20%+ boost in their own income.

If we get enough signatures, the DA may be able to remove these guys for misconduct under Section Five, Article 24 of the Texas Constitution.  Governor Abbott may be able to pressure them to rescind their raise and limit future raises to a reasonable Cost of Living Adjustment ("COLA") tied to inflation.  That's the real issue -- elected officials should not in charge of their own pay raises - it should be tied to a set COLA.

Ignore it, and it's just going to happen again in a year or two.  We have enough corruption in Washington DC - We don't need it here in Rockwall, too!

This petition is about pressuring change so that elected officials lose the power to raise their own incomes.

Remember these guys at election time!
