Rockstar Games has announced that the old-gen versions of GTA:Online are going to be shut down around December 16th 2021. The old-gen versions of this game are an iconic symbol for the game and a archive of what GTA:Online was once like, this version of the game is nostalgic for many players, and seeing the game that people  once grew up with disappear would be a very sad day for us all.

Rockstar Games would gain little to no benefit from shutting down theses servers, it's good to remember that Rockstar Games net worth is 4 billion dollars with a parent company worth 18 billion dollars, they are in no position where they cannot keep the old-gen servers up which means there is no reason to shut theses servers down.

A lot of the player-base would be thankful if Rockstar Games could keep theses servers up for anybody to enjoy at any time.
