Show Support: Rockford NEEDS A professionally built skate park.
The Issue
Rockford has 2 skate parks within it. One is in Churchill park which is very heavily used. It is very small, wooden and constantly in need of care. Everything from holes in the ramps, to screws coming out, or even rotting wood. This park at ANY time can be walked up to by anyone, and it is obvious it needs work. The other park is at Washington park off West State Street. This park is also obviously in need of repair at all times. The location causes is to be treated more like an obstacle course by young children who's parents are who knows where. Those two reasons cause almost no one to drive there ever, but even on top of that. There are constantly fights breaking out between local children. Making the park even more less desirable to Rockford locals. In fact most skaters forget it even exists due to these reasons.
Downtown Rockford Needs A professionally built park. Preferably by Spohn Ranch skate parks. They build beautiful parks that aren't an eyesore to look at. They are incredibly durable as well. Rockford is more than deserving of this. It is the 3rd largest city in the state, with over 150,000 residents. Where there are many smaller surrounding towns which have extremely nice, attractive, and successful parks built by Spohn Ranch. So why Rockford Still doesn't is depressing and even confusing subject to many locals. Those surrounding town include Oregon, Aurora, Sandwich, and Janesville. Even though Grant Parks new skate plaza in downtown Chicago isn't done by Spohn Ranch. It is proof that inner city skate parks don't have to be an eyesore. In fact they create more attraction.
The reason for downtown specifically is because it has a lot of activity with skateboarding, as well as it being a growing section of Rockford that is easily accessible by anyone. Where also the park being in the open, with a lot of traffic would help with any vandalism (which even most Skateboarders Don't like to have). There are MANY areas of land as well that are unused by anything. Also, with Groundfloor Skateboards being on downtown State Street, they would feed off of each other, helping the community even more. All of this in mind I honestly believe this would make downtown Rockford That much more of an attraction to visitors.
So, Please. Sign this showing your support that this is a real need for the youth and adults of Rockford to have a professionally built park that is safe, in downtown. It would be a great thing for the city that anyone to use at any time.
