Hospitals are banning all visitors AGAIN. When the covid pandemic started in spring 2020, hospitals banned all support persons for patients because there was not enough PPE to go around even for nurses and doctors.

Patients who were sick, incoherent, didn't speak english as a first language, and mothers had to be their own advocate, even if they were incapacitated.

Luckily a petition brought back rights for laboring mothers who are now allowed a support person for the entirety of the hospital stay.

Hospitals, however, especially URMC and RRH, have just announced that visitors are banned.

If you had a loved one in the hospital this past spring, or if you can't imagine sending your 18 year old daughter, 85 year old grandparent who just had a heart attack, or your parent who fell and injured themselves to the hospital alone, then sign this petition. Patients who go to the hospital are doing so because they are sick or injured and cannot support themselves. Some may not even be able to make decisions for themselves. Let's make sure our patients have voices... it is their right. Let our nurses do their jobs rather than answer family phone calls all day.

During flu periods, support people are limited, but never banned. Please keep allowing at least one support person per patient as we continue to navigate this pandemic. We have the PPE to do it. There is no excuse this time to ban this human right.
