Rochelle Township HS to implement racial sensitivity & social justice training each year
The Issue
Today, our country and the international community are suffering from and facing a scope of difficult and disturbing issues regarding racism, discrimination, and inequality. Within a small community such as Rochelle, it is in the hands of students, staff, and the community as a whole, to pursue social change and enhance the efforts in doing so. These efforts must especially be focused on discrimination, social injustice, and racism. The goal should be to promote knowledge and sensitivity about the current day oppression and experiences of young individuals, who may also be students at RTHS, and their experiences as minorities and the challenges they face daily simply due to their culture, race, identity, or the color of their skin. The lack of protection, assistance, and comfort that RTHS and the community are failing to give to RTHS' very own students is disheartening and unacceptable. It is necessary to implement an annual racial sensitivity and social justice training that includes the whole student body, staff, and faculty members at Rochelle Township High School. RTHS must work to eradicate discrimination and racism towards any individual based on their race, nationality, or identity, especially given that those are the same people who suffer from racism, police brutality, and more.
