I am creating this petition to ban microbead production and the use of products containing microbeads in Michigan. This is an attempt to protect against pollution in the Great Lakes which will also protect its fish and wildlife populations and to also protect the States residence against the health risks of microbeads. 

Many beauty products contain micro beads including toothpaste and facewashes. These microplastics end up going down our drains and into the water system, since water management plants are ill equipped to filter out micro plastics. The effects over time can be devistating, fish are accumulating micro plastics and dying. Protected wildlife such as the Bald Eagle consuming these contaminated fish and falling ill. But humans are also being effected since micro plastics have been found in people and our fresh water sources. The chemicals in microbeads have been proven to cause cancer and pose other serious health risks and complications through bio accumilation.

It is imperative that we take swift action against the microbead epidemic, not only for the benefit of our water quality and ecosystem, but also for our health and the health of future generations to come.
