STOP the expansion of Tweed New Haven Airport

STOP the expansion of Tweed New Haven Airport
The Issue
Tweed New Haven Regional Airport is heavily subsidized by State of Connecticut and New Haven taxes -- at least two-thirds of its annual budget. Tweed is now suing the State of Connecticut in an attempt to alter the 2009 legislation that limits its runway to 5600 feet. To add insult to injury, the airport's lawsuit was announced in the midst of a State budget crisis. Tweed receives $1.5 million annually from the State.
The State of Connecticut should halt funding for the airport in light of this adversarial stance by the Tweed Airport Authority and further reiterate the terms of the 2009 Tweed Airport Authority Act (based upon the 2009 Memorandum of Agreement between Tweed, New Haven, and East Haven).
Tweed is built on wetlands, in the middle of a major bird migratory path with negligent attention to area flooding - very close to Long Island Sound. The footprint of the airport is in the middle of established residential neighborhoods already experiencing significant sound and air pollution from the planes and the shots fired to deter deer, as well as routine violations of the early morning/late night no-fly times. The plan to pave the runway safety areas is UNSAFE, environmentally UNHEALTHY, and fiscally UNSOUND.
