We need to fight to stay together

Our campaign to review the new Inner Sydney High School's catchment wasn't just about a boundary; it was about keeping our community together. By sending our children to school locally, we strengthen the social network of our neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, there's another initiative that's threatening our community. 

The State Government plans to sell our public land in Waterloo to developers and opt out of its civic duty to care for society's most vulnerable members.

The size and scale of what the government is proposing is unprecedented in Australia as the plan is to increase the current 2,012 homes on the site to 6,800 homes including 17 towers up to 40 storeys high. And of the 4,788 additional homes – only an extra 28 will be social housing and 340 affordable housing.

While locals and community groups haven't been successful at getting the Government to revise its plans, we feel that with a state election only days away and a shifting political landscape, we are now in a unique position to make this an election-deciding issue.

We are aiming to secure the support of 10,000 people before the 23rd March to back a design for Waterloo that puts people and community, rather than commercial interests, at its centre.

We really believe we can do this.
